13.0 Beta 1 - Special Characters, Space and tabs & Line Breaks highlighting

I menu-selected View | Special Characters | Space and tabs, & Line Breaks,
and they showed as black background with reddish characters.

I couldn't remember if those were the colors I chose, and I don't like them,
so I went into Options to see and change them.

I couldn't find where and how to change colors and such.
So either I'm forgetting, or they were moved. (that is another question)

When I exited the Options Dialog (which paints slowly now so it looks "weird" until it finishes --
that is another issue that might need addressing),
they all changed to normal text colors, which I also don't like.
I thought sure you could change the colors for those, and I thought I had way back when.

Anyway, something weird is going on there.
