MPad (RJ Texted Lite)
I've haven't had time to work on RJ TextEd the last few weeks. But I have started to work on a lite version of RJ TextEd. Currently I just call it MPad. I've stripped it down quite a bit, but I still have some work to do before it's ready to be released.
Name suggestions are welcome. MPad might work, but if you can come up with a cool unique name - that would be great.

Re: MPad (RJ Texted Lite)
Context II
Glad to hear you are working on a lite version, it is something I have pushed for in both the recent and deeper pasts, see: https://www.rj-texted.se/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4907
I have been a continuous user of Context for years and I still use it daily and I see it is as a RJTextEd Lite. In my os/x dock that I am working on now, I always have space for a Context and RJtextEdit icon sitting side by side:

Context has a good working name, it is known about and the original developer wanted someone to take over its legacy - a name like context is actually a good one for marketing and as it states something in context and is text-ish. I always thought RjTextEd was a bit of a mouthful.
My dock above has just received a new name, it was a Rocketdock replacement and I finalised on the name Steamydock being both a dock and steamy... I think it is best practice to have the function in the name wherever possible.
Other alternatives to MPad (which I find does not tell me it is an editor at all as for me, a pad is now something from Apple we use instead of a tablet).
o TextEd - obvious truncation of RJTextEd, truncated therefore lighter? A bit dull but it says what it is.
o EDTLite - this one seems to flow off the tongue and is memorable, it says lite, it says editor.
o CodeEd - says Code and Editor, it also sounds professional. Strangely, adding lite makes it CodeEdLite that seems too long for a lite tool.
o Contex2 - doesn't actually take the name of Context but obviously implies it - and also that this is the replacement. That has benefits in itself.
o RJTlite - doesn't say a lot about being a text editor to those that don't know RJTed but it does imply it to those that do.

"Noli pati a scelestis opprimi"... or is it "non lacessit illegitimae te carborundum"?

Re: MPad (RJ Texted Lite)
I thought about EdLite too but personally, I think it needs another 't' in edlite to make it more firmly feel like 'edit'. There was an old line editor called edlin and I always thought it sounded a little insipid and weak, edlite sounds a little of the same, it sounds a bit pathetic and needs that extra 't' to say 'editor' properly.
EDT was an editor from the VMS days so there already exists an editor connotation whereas the full word EDIT seems too long, so I contracted it to EdtLite rather than EditLite then uppercased it to EDT which gave the editor part more prominence. That's my thinking anyway. I think the word edit says it all and the name should definitely have that in there somewhere.
My favourite is still Contex2 but you know my history with context so it is only natural I should have a bias.
Just for completeness sake a few more suggestion, some silly, some not so:
o codePad
o miniEdit
o miniEDT
o thinPad
o Editoy
o smallEdt
o smallEdit
o textLite
o codeText
o padLite
o liteEd
o JText

Hi Rickard,
It's not simple find a new name for an editor: there are 1.948 at February 12, 2021.
see http://texteditors.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?EditorIndex
Anyway my suggestion is:
• Qedit32
This name don't exist, at moment.

Re: MPad (RJ Texted Lite)
QEdit was a shareware editor back in the 90s and had a good following. I still have a copy that I use on my DOS machine. Perhaps QEdit as a name might confuse potential and the authors of the Semware Editor might be annoyed by its re-use.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_SemWare_Editor
The 32 suffix might also confuse people into thinking the new editor is only 32 bit whereas I suspect it will be 64.

Re: MPad (RJ Texted Lite)
How's progress on EdMin/RJmin/mini-Ed/Jsmall/TinyJ/LiteJ/Lite R ?
I am still using Context as my RJLite and as you know Context is now very long in the tooth and unsupported for a good ten years now?
I noticed that the old Context site has just had an update, I'm not sure what that says about the old tool but perhaps there is life in the old dog yet?

If I have some time this summer - I may work on it again. I've done some work on it already, but it turns out it's a lot more work than I first though.

I *do* hope this editor won't result in abandonment of RJTextEd... it is really my ideal editor...

Re: MPad (RJ Texted Lite)
No, of course not. It is the 'light' version of RJTextEd. Lighter in functionality and hopefully quicker to fire up.
Try the Context Editor, it is still downloadable. It is very much an RJTextEd-Lite. I believe some of RJTextEd's functionality was inspired by Context to some extent. I use RJTextEd of course - but I still use Context for quick-opening tasks where Notepad+++ functionality is required but the full capability of RJTextEd is not.
RJTextEd is currently quite slow to load due to the additional functions and is therefore unsuitable for quick edits. Context fits the bill perfectly until RJTextEd Lite shows itself.

Re: MPad (RJ Texted Lite)
heh... that's an ironic comment, at least for me... on my current machine, RJTE opens in a *flash* !!!! I have no reason to try something else... that *may*, of course, be due to the fact that all of my 'disk' drives are Gen4 m.2 NVMe drives...yereverluvinuncleber wrote: ↑13 Jul 2022 20:17 RJTextEd is currently quite slow to load due to the additional functions and is therefore unsuitable for quick edits. And frankly, I spent over a decade of my professional career using MultiEdit for Windows, and MultiEdit for DOS before that... it was a fantastic editor (when it was still being supported), but I definitely had time to finish my coffee while waiting for it to load... but even then, as now, load time didn't really matter, because I would open the editor soon after boot, and never close it again...
