Accelerator key for "Replace All"

Hi Rickard, I'm pretty sure that for years the accelerator key for the "Replace All" button was "Alt+L", now it's "Alt+E". Why did you change it, it's a real challenge for muscle memory.

For years shortcut key for "Replace all" on "Replace" tab has been Alt-E:

(2015)

(2024)

However, now on "Find in files" tab it is Alt-E and on "Replace" tab it is Alt-A. But. This is all about modal window; I can see that on the bottom searchbar shortcuts are and were different: now it's Alt-E, while it used to be, in fact, Alt-L, cf.

Morals to this story:
1) always tell upfront which way of searching you use 8)
2) finding consistent scheme of shortcuts is not easy :o
3) ...but perhaps it would be convenient to make them uniform across (at least) tabs? no, I don't have any wise solution up my sleeve :(

Thank you @pjj, I should have mentioned I was using the docked bottom search bar.

I guess it will mess with more people to change it, as you say, now it's consistent. I'll just have to get used to it

Cheers.

I didn't say it was consistent; to the contrary, I suggested it was not. I use non-modal search window; on Replace tab it's Alt-A, while on Find in files tab it's Alt-E. I guess for the user this inter-tab consistency is more important than consistency between window and bottom bar (the latter is more important for the dev).

I very rarely use these shortcuts myself and haven't memorized them, so either changing them, reverting or leaving as-is is fine for me.

Sorry, I misunderstood/misquoted you

@Rickard, perhaps, since it's a Windows application, you might follow the Windows shortcuts, e.g. in Microsoft Word:

Alt+F: Find (Next)
Alt+R: Replace
? Find All (this isn't available in Word)
Alt+A: Replace All

Anyway, this could be a real can of worms, so no expectations here.

Hey, no problem 8)

Yes it is. E.g. in "Find in Files" Alt-A would mean Find All or Replace All? (Btw. Alt-B for Backup on this tab doesn't work, and there is a reason for that...) But: default option on each tab (Find, Replace, Replace, Goto) can be executed through Enter, so perhaps reverting the change you mentioned and maybe changing tab order (going through "action buttons" first before scope and options) would be the best course of action? Just my 3cc.
