Treat tabs as n of spaces in file comparison

Post by pjj »

Some time ago I downloaded WordPress add-on to amend one file and then upload it on-line. There was an update to the add-on, so I needed to alter that file again, but sadly I hadn't marked changed lines, so I had to compare the original file with modified one to find out where to make my changes. "Easy-peasy", I said to myself, "I will use marvelous RJ TE's built-in file comparison tool and find what I need in a heartbeat." Sadly, this was not the case, because original file used tabs for indents, and I use spaces, so practically all lines were marked as altered :o

Hence my request: a switch to treat tabs as identical to so many spaces, as it is set for the current highlighter. (I can see WinMerge has more options with regard to whitespaces, so perhaps you'll find inspiration there to add something more for good measure 8))

There is an option to ignore spaces and tabs that may work.

I'll add some new option in the next release:

- Ignore leading spaces
- Ignore trailing spaces
- Ignore line endings (Windows/Unix/Mac)

Thanks a lot! (I've been looking for file comparison's settings, I don't know how I've missed them :?)
