DONE? View - Word Wrap - Dual Doc View

Post by rjbill »

I chose Dual Document View and selected the files for each View.

I then chose View - Word Wrap for each, which I expected to wrap at the
DDV window width, but it did not.

It wraps at the designated Tab Column Width.

Is that the way it's supposed to work?

It wraps them if I set the column width to, in my case, 45 for each.

Please check your settings. You can word wrap at the window edge, right margin line or at a set distance.

Make sure the word wrap setting is set to wrap at the right window edge.

That's right, I remember that now.

I have mine set to Wrap at the Right Margin, which I set to 100.

The problem is, I want smaller (vertical-split) screens to wrap at the Window Edge. (but maybe not always)
It would be nice to have a button that cycles through the Wrap options at each mouse-click press.
Maybe a long mouse-click press would bring up a drop-down menu to choose the available option.
I suppose that would be "easy" except for the 'time to implement'. (and desire / need)
And another button on the button line.

We can't add our own buttons on the menu, can we?
I remember that being asked for, maybe by me.
I suppose you might be able to write a script to do that, if you could
assign it to a button. (drop-down and menu items "take too long" and "aren't convenient")

I don't remember if there's a way to query the (Wrap) Option states in a script.
(or set the values in Options -- I suppose MAYBE an "Options Object" would nice and
sometimes handy -- that could be a bit of an implementation, though ---
I know you can turn Word Wrap On and Off)

What is Wrap at the Absolute Margin? (last choice)

How is that different from Wrap at Window Edge?

(I'm guessing maybe no word-'space' breaking?)

I looked at the Help. I guess it's WAY out of date at this point and not up-to-date.
I know Help and Documentation can be a MAJOR pain, unless you are
one of those kinds of people who like to do that sort of thing ---
too bad we don't have a Help Czar, who could help you -- even if you
wanted to do that, I don't think I'm up for it these days.

There is a toolbar button to turn word wrap on/off. Maybe I could add a dropdown menu to it, containing a few options like wrap at window edge, wrap at right margin...?

Turns out I can't use a toolbar button as both a dropdown button and toggle at the same time.

I've added a right click context menu instead, with the options below.
  • Wrap at window edge.
  • Wrap at right margin. The right margin is usually set to column 80.
  • Wrap at column#. Set the distance in options.
  • Wrap at absolute margin. Stop trying to wrap at a logical position and wrap at the exact given position/margin.
