DONE? Alt+f+s slight change

Post by yereverluvinuncleber »

This appears to be a very trivial request and hopefully easy to implement.

I have been using Alt+f+s to trigger a save on all Windows applications that I have used for years now since the days of Windows 95 where such regular saving was essential. I now use the key combination without thinking and without really knowing what I do. It is for me, a 'save' and it is programmed into me.

Unfortunately I have been taught to use the key combination as a series of keypresses rather than as a true combination and that seems to be incompatible with what RJTextEd expects. Eg. All Windows apps that I have ever used allowed Alt followed by 'f' followed by 's' as three separate keypresses (Frontpage, VB5/ VB6, word, open office, MS Project, Lotus 123, Excel, Context, Photoshop, Audacity &c ) - all these applications allowed Alt+f+s as three separate keypresses in sequence.

In these applications Alt is a trigger that allows menu operations to start, all subsequent keypresses are accepted as menu selections even if they follow several seconds afterward. The important thing is that they don't have to be typed simultaneously.

RJTextEd is different as it expects Alt and F to be pressed together simultaneously before it accepts that the menu group that has been selected is active. This is probably technically correct but it leads to me failing to save my changes each and every time.

Can you please make a small change that allows my save action to be valid as it is the action that I have been performing for the whole of my Windows life? It seems a trivial change but it is really rather essential. Here's hoping as it rather spoils my complete enjoyment of RJText Ed.

Lovely - thankyou very much indeed.

RJTextEd is without doubt the best advanced source and text editor I have used so far.

A slight change required to the ALT+F+S that I had not previously noticed. The current key combination works fine but once it has done its job the menu action should be completely closed and focus transferred back to the document so that subsequent keypresses are back on the document at the point where we were previously, so we can keep on typing.

At the moment however, if you perform an ALT+F+S the focus remains on the menu and any subsequent typing causes more menu operations. A separate click is required to place focus back on the text area of the document and that is what I am trying to remove the need for.

I think this has been fixed already in a previous release (v13.30 or earlier)...

Forgot to provide feedback on this. This fix is a good one.

If you use the Alt+F+S quickly then it returns focus to the editor. IF you perform the key combination one key at a time, with a half second gap between each keypress, then the result is the menu still has focus and you will see the 'File' menu option still highlighted - focus is there but not on the text area as expected.

Technically, the Alt+F+S does exactly what I want but you have to be quick.
