Install error

Post by rjbill »

See snapshot.

I tried to do the new beta upgrade and got that error.

So I chose ABORT.

Now the TextEd.exe file is gone and I can't run the editor.

==========

So I downloaded the 64-bit version and installed it.

When I ran it, it said the install failed and to download it from the website.

Then the Beta install dialog popped up and I canceled that.

It seems to be working. EXCEPT it says I am running version 12.10.

Try to reboot and reinstall v12.20 beta 2. If that doesn't work try to first uninstall the program, then install.

It could be an antivirus issue... The error you received it quite common and you may find a solution if you search the web.

I rebooted and tried to instal 12.12 first, and it got a 'standard' "failed to update" dialog
when I started the editor, and it still says version 12.10 in About.

But I was already at 12.12 before, so I guess the beta install error messed that up.

Or, when I downloaded the updater from the website download page,
it downloaded 12.10 instead of 12.12.

Yeah. When I look at the properties on rj-install_x64.exe, it says file version is 12.10.2.

Shouldn't the download on the website Download page be the latest 12.12?

Looking at it, it says "Version 12.10 (12.12) (Jun 10, 2017)", and there is a link below
that says, "Update files (v12.12) -- If the auto update feature doesn't work properly you can download the update files below:"

So I guess I can download that and try it to get to 12.12 again.

Now that is getting a DeleteFile Code 5 error and failing, and I even right-clicked on it and
ran it as Administrator, which is supposedly what you are supposed to do to 'fix' that error.

I think the editor was open and running, and that caused the above error.
I've upgraded to 12.12 now.

I downloaded 12.20.1 and manually installed it.
Some "app preventer" program tried to stop me, so that must be the problem.
Windows 10 thought it was malware or something for some reason.
But it looks like it installed okay now.
