Thanks for the reply. I finally discovered that I had that shortcut mapped globally from another application.
I changed the mapping in the other application and now it works in MPad.

If you have the portable version, it belongs in the RJTextEd\Help folder.

I have 'Reopen last open documents at startup' checked in settings.
I always see a blank window (no tabs displayed) on startup.
